Writing competitions at Chorleywood Literature Festival

We are thrilled to include writing competitions for adults and children as part of Chorleywood Lifest's programme of activities. The competition winners will be chosen by independent judges.

All the competitions are generously sponsored by Dr Jack Dominian of Chorleywood in memory of his wife Edith Mary Dominian, and by Three Rivers Community Arts Project.

LitFest Writing Competition 2010

Once again we are running four writing competitions - something for everyone, whatever your age!

Entry is free for children up to 16, and £2 for adults.

Prizes will be awarded to first and second in each category.

For children in Key Stage 1, we would like you to draw someone in your family reading, and tell us what they like to read.

For children in Key Stage 2, we would like you to write a poem entitled MY FAMILY.

For children aged 11-16, write a SHORT STORY of approx 200 words, with the opening sentence, “The family had gathered together as usual”.

For adults, write a short story of up to 800 words entitled FAMILY TIES.

We asked children aged 5-6 to choose their favourite story, explain why they like it, and draw a picture to go with their writing.

LitFest Writing Competition 2008 Winners

Congratulations to the winners and runners-up of the 2008 competitions.

Children's competitions
In the Children's writing competition, children under the age of 11, were asked to write a poem of no more than 16 lines entitled 'I remember'. There were two categories for this section, ages 5-7 and 8-11.

Children between the ages of 12 and 18, were asked for a story in EXACTLY 100 words! The story to be titled 'That's why we should remember'.
